Our littlest man was 2 years old in March, which I guess now makes him 28 months old. He still has his dummy and we’re currently trying to slowly wean him off it. Hence, dummy gate!
I don’t really mind him having his dummy for sleeping, I think if he gets comfort from it then great! Both my other two children had dummies and they stopped having them on their own pretty much by the time they were three. It’s the wandering around with the thing stuck in his face when he’s playing that’s starting to grate on me.
Little Man is a big chatterbox just like his big sister. From the minute he gets up in the morning, he’s full of conversation. He has a pretty amazing vocabulary for his age too (if I do say so myself)! I can’t stand to hear him speaking around the dummy. It’s not great! Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like he constantly has it shoved in, but up until now, when he’s asked for it, he’s got it.
So, we’ve made the conscious decision that he now only has his dummy when he’s tired or genuinely upset. This morning, he was playing happily with his cars and asked for his dummy. We told him no. He asked about 20 more times – “num num” (I don’t know where that came from, his speech is pretty good yet his dummy will always be his “num num”). We continued to tell him no and he actually gave up and carried on playing.
It’s not always going to be that easy. We will have to be strong! He’s a very stubborn little man!
Next will be “bottle gate”. That’s a whole different issue!
